Village of Yellow Springs, Ohio

READING AS FOLLOWS:



“WHEREAS: Karen Wolford has for the past seven years led the Yellow Springs Senior Center with vision, integrity, and excellence, benefiting local seniors in substantial ways; and

WHEREAS: visionary leader since the beginning, her grant-writing talent brought to the center many new opportunities, most significantly that of being designated the Dementia Friendly Village, one fo the few in Ohio; and

WHEREAS: Through Karen’s visionary efforts, the village is now moving toward being designated a Livable/Equitable/Age-Friendly Village, an effort that will benefit not only local seniors but all residents; and

WHEREAS: Under Karen’s leadership, the center has successfully held many fundraisers, campaigns, allowing programs to grow as well - in 2020, the center’s annual fundraising campaign garnered the largest response ever; and

WHEREAS: During Karen’s tenure, the center continued to grow its programming for local seniors, offering a wide variety of classes for free; and

WHEREAS: Perhaps Karen’s greatest accomplishment was to pivot from the center’s previous needs and activities to those demanded by the pandemic, and there’s no doubt that during this time she put in a substantial number of unpaid hours addressing these critical needs; it’s not an exaggeration to say that Karen helped to save lives in Yellow Springs;


NOW THEREFORE: For these reasons and many more, the Senior Center board expresses its deep appreciation to Karen for her vision, her expertise, and her hard work, within her the very best in the future, and therefore, I, Mayor Pam Conine, in recognition of all Karen has done for the Village of Yellow Springs, hereby declare today, May 26, 2021, to be KAREN WOLFORD RECOGNITION DAY!"
