Pooh for Peace

Pooh for Peace

This is Catherine Roma’s favorite poster from her freshman year in college. Alton Kelly and Stanley Mouse designed this classic Winnie the Pooh and Piglet poster to advertise a Concert for Peace organized by the the "Write In Committee for Phil Drath" at Mt. Tamalpais Outdoor Theater featuring Joan Baez, The Grateful Dead and Quicksilver Messenger Service. It was held on October 8, 1966.   "Only a write in vote for Phil Drath can register your opposition to Lyndon Johnson's policy in Viet Nam." Drath didn't get written in, and the Dead thereafter stayed away from benefits for political candidates.

Alton Kelley and Stanley Mouse are credited with creating the wings and beetles on all Journey album covers as well as the skull and roses image for the Grateful Dead.
