We All Belong Here – We Will Defend Each Other

“Meet the 1342 Bus with Love”

We Belong Here

Yellow Springs Friends Meeting (Quaker) was invited in 2019 by the Kettering Ohio Unitarian Universalist Fellowship to offer support to asylum-seeking Immigrants in transit on Greyhound buses from border sites in the West to the Northern and Eastern regions of the United States to stay with relatives. These individuals and families were literally thrown on the bus with no food, drink or funds for a 2-3 day journey. We held a Yellow Springs “Bagging Party,” attended by over 40 villagers to create over 50 plus packs of food and personal hygiene supplies for adults and children. The YS Unitarian Fellowship donated funds for water bottles, diapers and small blankets. Excess supplies and funds were given to local food programs in the village. Village volunteers were signed up to “Meet the 1342 Bus with Love” where we boarded the early morning bus during a short Dayton stop, and offered supplies and encouragement to traveling immigrants and others in need. National Quaker organizations  ---  the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) and Friends Committee on National legislation (FCNL) continue their work on Immigrant Justice, reuniting separated families, reforming citizenship laws and pressuring Congress to pass the Dream Act.
