(YELLOW SPRINGS, Ohio)—The Village of Yellow Springs has been awarded $1.6 million, by the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), for execution of select projects in the Active Transportation Plan that will enhance the quality of life for those that live, work and play in the Village by improving safety for pedestrians and cyclists.

Given the spectrum of desired and recommended improvements under the Active Transportation Plan, the Village team submitted a Safety Funding Application to ODOT. The Village was successful in securing funds among a record setting 77 applications worth more than $197 millionfar exceeding funds available for projects.

The Village of Yellow Springs attracts over 300,000 people annually through our unique offerings and a variety of festivals and events. With a strong history of academic excellence, progressive independence, creativity and diversity, Yellow Springs is often listed as one of the “Coolest”, “Most Beautiful” and “Best College” small towns to visit. The Village is “destination” for its natural beauty, culture and economic vibrancy.

With the generous support from ODOT, the project includes the following enhancements

  • Reconstruct multi-use path along Dayton Street from Enon Road to Elm Street
  • Curextensions, high-visibility crosswalk markings and signs at five intersections along Dayton Street and Xenia Avenue
  • Improve Little Miami Scenic Trail (LMST) crossings
  • Rectangular Rapid Flash Beacons (RRFBs) and high-visibility markings at select locations
  • Redesign curbs and reduce crossing distances at Xenia Ave/Corry Street intersection (signal)
  • Provide sidewalk/trail connectivity to LMST from E. Limestone Street and Glen Street, including RRFBs and crosswalks on Corry Street.
