YS DRINKING WATER SAFETY AND OHIO CHEMICAL SPILL PUBLIC STATEMENT

We are saddened by the chemical spill in East Palestine, OH, and are hopeful that local, state and federal authorities will find a resolution to insure the safety of drinking water for residents of that area.

We want to reassure our residents that Village drinking water is safe and has not been impacted or threatened by the recent train derailment and subsequent chemical spill that occurred in East Palestine Ohio on February 3, 2023.

The Village of Yellow Springs produces drinking water through wells in the sand and gravel aquifer along the Little Miami River.
The Village meets all Ohio EPA water quality standards required in our operating permit issued by the Ohio Environment Protection Agency, and conducts numerous water quality samples daily to ensure the safety of the drinking water.
