Hourly Pay Range: $20.44 to $ 26.12 DOQ

  1. High school diploma or general education degree (GED). 
  2. Must possess a valid Ohio driver’s license.  
  3. Must be able to pass Drug Screen 


Installs, maintains, and repairs water distribution system. Works directly under the Water II team lead and Electric/Water superintendent  


  1.  Operates a valve exercising machine doing yearly valve maintenance.  
  2. Installs, maintains, and repairs components of the water distribution system.  
  3. Drives trucks, pulls trailers, and performs routine vehicle maintenance.  
  4. Repairs and replace broken fire hydrants. 
  5. Repairs and installs new water main as needed 
  6. Runs GIS equipment to insure precise locations of the Village of Yellow Springs assets 
  7. Locates O.U.P.S. for underground wiring and digging purposes.  
  8. Performs wiring and other electrician functions at Village facilities. 
  9. Operates tools for power plant maintenance (e.g., welder, drill press, bench grinder, body grinder, lathe, top and die cutting torch, etc.).  
  10. Performs custodial duties (e.g., mows grass, washes and waxes vehicles, sweeps and mops floors, etc.).  
  11. Handles a variety of troubleshooting.  
  12. Lifts and moves up to one hundred (100) pounds a distance of thirty (30) yards 
  13. Follows all Village safety and health policies and procedures 
  14. Attends safety meeting and seminars. 
  15. Will be on call on a rotating schedule  
  16. Maintains required licenses and/or certificates. 
  17. Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance. 
  18. Must answer phone calls and check emails regularly 
  19. Keeps all equipment clean and serviced 
  20. Paints fire hydrants 


  1. Attends workshops or seminars related to duties performed.  
  2. Assists other departments of the Village (e.g., ground for electric, street with snow plowing, parks with mowing grass, cleaning sewer lines, water and water treatment plants, maintenance work details, etc.).  
  3. Demonstrates and maintains satisfactory public relations.  
  4. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.  
  5.  Must go thru Northwest Line school module 1 (one year course with 2000 hours) 
  6. Obtains Class B CDL (recommended) 
  7. Obtains Water distribution 1 license (recommended) 
  8. Passes the Village of Yellow Springs equipment training course (recommended) 
  9. Maintains valid driver’s license. 
  10. Mandatory on call rotation


Knowledge of: Village policies and procedures; safety practices and procedures; electrical construction maintenance, and repair; electrical principles; traffic control; traffic signals; public relations; occupational hazards; tools, equipment, and materials used in electric distribution line construction and maintenance.  

Skill in: Trencher; backhoe; dump truck, power tools; cell phones, locating tools, and GIS

The employee must negotiate, use, and work with or in the vicinity of:  

  1. Portable metal ladders.  
  2. Fixed ladders.  
  3. Vehicle-mounted elevating and rotating work platforms.  
  4. Noisy operations or activities.  
  5. Compressed Gases (argon).  
  6. Acetylene.  
  7. Oxygen  
  8. Flammable and combustible liquids.  
  9. Hazardous waste operations involving emergency response operations for release of threats of release of hazardous substances (PCB’s).  
  10. General requirements for use, care, and limitations of personal protective equipment.  
  11. Fall protection for employee's system requirements to eliminate fall hazard. 
  12. Eye and face protection due to potential impact to the head from objects, electricity, and other hazards (required only when hazards are present or likely to present).  
  13. Occupational head protection due to potential impact to the head from objects, electricity, and other hazards (required only when hazards are present or likely to present).  
  14. Electrical protective devices (such as rubber gloves) to prevent electrical shock.  
  15. Hand Protection.  
  16. Machines and equipment, which could accidentally become energized (lockout/tag out).  
  17. Medical and First Aid.  
  18. Handling of material and supplies. (Includes mechanical handling equipment, the manner in which things are stored, and housekeeping) 
  19. General requirement for safe use of tools and guarding.  
  20. Woodworking equipment. Abrasive wheels. 
  21. Hand and portable power tools. 
  22. Guarding of portable power tools. 
  23. Jack stands.  
  24. Oxygen-fuel gas welding and cutting. 
  25. Arc welding and cutting. 
  26. Electrical wiring. 
  27. Human blood or other potentially infectious materials. 
  28. Hazardous chemicals  


The employee:  

  1. Works in or around crowds.
