The Village of Yellow Springs seeks a full-time Utility Service Worker 4 Water Distribution. Primary responsibilities will include performing a variety of semi-skilled and skilled labor tasks in maintaining public water distribution system, fire hydrants, valves, locates, and operating light to heavy equipment.  Must have training and/or experience that evidences basic knowledge of general maintenance and repair work needed.  A HS diploma or GED, as well as a valid driver’s license are required.  A Class B CDL is required. OEPA Water Distribution 1 license required. Resume required. Open until filled. EOE

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  2. Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a class B endorsement
  3. Must possess a valid Ohio driver’s license.
  4. Training and/or experience as a general maintenance and repair technician.
  5. Certified Water Distribution 1 by the State of Ohio
  6. The ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check
  7. Passes the Village of Yellow Springs equipment training course within 6 months of hiring

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Installs, maintains, and repairs water distribution system. Works directly under Superintendent- Electric/Water Distribution.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  1.  Operates a valve exercising machine doing yearly valve maintenance.
  2.  Installs, maintains, and repairs components of the water distribution system.
  3.  Drives trucks, pulls trailers, and performs routine vehicle maintenance.
  4.  Repairs and replace broken fire hydrants
  5. Repairs and installs new water main as needed
  6.  Runs GIS equipment to insure precise locations of the Village of Yellow Springs assets
  7.  Locates O.U.P.S. for underground wiring and digging purposes.
  8.  Performs wiring and other electrician functions at Village facilities.
  9. Operates tools for power plant maintenance (e.g., welder, drill press, bench grinder, body grinder, lathe, top and die cutting torch, etc.). 
  10. Performs custodial duties (e.g., mows grass, washes and waxes vehicles, sweeps and mops floors, etc.). 
  11. Handles a variety of troubleshooting. 
  12. Lifts and moves up to one hundred (100) pounds a distance of thirty (30) yards
  13. Follows all Village safety and health policies and procedures
  14. Attends safety meeting and seminars.
  15. Will be on call on a rotating schedule
  16. Maintains required licenses and/or certificates.
  17.  Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
  18.  Must answer phone calls and check emails regularly
  19. Keeps all equipment clean and serviced
  20. Paints fire hydrants

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  1. Attends workshops or seminars related to duties performed.
  2. Assists other departments of the Village (e.g., ground for electric, street with snow plowing, parks with mowing grass, cleaning sewer lines, water and water treatment plants, maintenance work details, etc.). 
  3. Demonstrates and maintains satisfactory public relations.
  4. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  5. Must go thru Northwest Line school module 1 (one year course with 2000 hours)
  6. Mandatory on call rotation
  7. Maintains valid driver’s license.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 

Knowledge of: Village policies and procedures; safety practices and procedures; electrical construction maintenance, and repair; electrical principles; traffic control; traffic signals; public relations; occupational hazards; tools, equipment, and materials used in electric distribution line construction and maintenance. 

Skill in: Trencher; backhoe; dump truck, power tools; cell phones, locating tools, and GIS

Digger derrick truck, trencher, backhoe, pick-up truck, forklift, dump truck, brush wood chipper, power tools, valve exercising machine, vac truck, front end loader, skid steer, mini excavator

PHYSICALLY DEMANDING AND HAZARDOUS WORKING CONDITIONS INHERENT IN THIS JOB DESCRIPTION:
