National Teen Driver Safety Week

National Teen Driver Safety Week

It is "National Teen Driver Safety Week" and "...the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is teaming up with Greene County Safe Communities and Greene County Public Health to empower parents to discuss safe driving habits with their young drivers."

Even in a small community like Yellow Springs, it is important to note the statistics of surrounding Motor vehicle crashes being leading cause of death for teens (15-18 years old) in the United States, and how to help prevent teen driver incidents.

According to TSM (Traffic Safety Marketing), "Parents can be the biggest influencers on teens' choices behind the wheel if they take the time to talk with their teens about some of the biggest driving risks." It is important for parents to have safety conversations with teens to increase awareness surrounding safe driving.
Greene County Public Health distributed a press release highlighting tips parents can use to address teen driver safety risks, which include:
• Impaired Driving
• Seat Belt Safety
• Distracted Driving
• Speed Limits
• Passengers

Review the press release above for helpful tips for having driver safety conversations with teen drivers.
