Job Description

Lifeguards are responsible for ensuring swimmers' safety and well-being while attending the Gaunt Park Swimming Pool Facility. Lifeguards hold a physical job that requires the ability to swim and perform rescues for individuals in distress. Substantial social interaction with pool-goers in a respectful, professional manner as a representative of the Village of Yellow Springs is expected. Lifeguards must ensure that all pool-goers are abiding by the rules at all times. Lifeguards must also be knowledgeable about - and able to share - information on current water conditions. They must be responsive to any emergencies that may arise, such as someone in need of first aid or a potential drowning victim. Additionally, they look out for unsafe conditions in the water, such as the presence of dangerous objects.

This position requires the following:

  • Proper knowledge of AED, CPR and similar life-saving techniques are needed; proper first aid skills are mandatory.
  • Lifeguard certification.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies in the water or surrounding areas.
  • Administration of first aid and ability to calmly and clearly notify emergency medical personnel in case of serious injury.
  • Ability to identify and maintain a safe swimming environment and enforce all policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Ability to participate and successfully complete bi-weekly in-service training.
  • Swimming Instruction during scheduled swimming lesson classes.
  • Ability and willingness to maintain grounds and pool facilities, both indoor and outdoor, in a clean and orderly manner.

Successful candidates will be Seasonal employees of the Village of Yellow Springs and will receive biweekly payroll via direct deposit to a bank account. Income is subject to payroll taxes for the municipality, the state and the federal government. Employees must provide two forms of identification. Offers of employment will be contingent upon the negative results of drug testing through Community Mercy Occupational Health.  Must be 15 years of age as of May 1.  Employees under the age of 18 as of May 1, 2022 must provide a signed copy of the consent to work form provided.
