Peak Shaving Alert

ALERT: There is a peak shaving alert for Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday.
WHAT IS PEAK SHAVING?

"With peak shaving, a consumer reduces power consumption (“load shedding”) quickly and avoids a spike in consumption for a short period. This is either possible by temporarily scaling down production, activating an on-site power generation system, applying energy shifting, or relying on a battery."
Monday is expected to be the start of a few days of higher loads that should result in both 1 and 5 CP peak shaving. Tuesday and Wednesday will most likely see 5CP shaving with some 1 CP events possible. Lower temperatures/loads are expected to return on Thursday.

Tuesday and Wednesday will also be impacted. Stay tuned for more updates.

ADDITIONAL TERMINOLOGY
1CP Dayton Zone is the transmission territory that delivers power to the Village of Yellow Springs. PJM is the regional transmission organization that coordinates the movement of wholesale electricity across 13 states and the District of Columbia.

The "be prepared to run" statement is for electric enterprises to run their generation equipment to produce electricity. For example, the AMP association owns Diesel Generators that will run during peak demand to provide additional electricity in the network and control for peak demand charges, which ultimately results in peak demand charge savings for members(electric enterprises like Yellow Springs).

How can you help in this effort? Reduce unnecessary electricity usage, be mindful of when you use high-demand appliances such as washers, dryers, and ovens.
