VMP
Mediation Services
In Mediation people talk and listen to each other with the help
of a mediator. It is an opportunity to make decisions for yourself
about the situation.
Some examples of situations when mediation has been used include:
- Problems between neighbors
- Organization/group conflict
- Workplace conflicts
- Concerns within families; parenting schedules, parents and children,
siblings
- Decision-making regarding care for older adults and their grown
children
- Young people's concerns
- Business and customer concerns
- Landlord/tenant issues
Mediation can help anytime you want to talk to someone and need
an environment to have the conversation. Mediators can help create
an atmosphere that facilitates more productive discussions.
Mediation by the VMP is:
Confidential - Being a small town we are very aware
of the concern for confidentiality. All VMP mediators are trained
to keep information from a mediation private. Notes taken during
a mediation are destroyed.
Free - Mediations are free to all area residents.
The Village Mediation Program is funded by the Village Government
and is staffed with trained volunteers.
How does Mediation work?
When you call the mediation program, a case manager will talk with
you about your concerns and answer your questions about the process.
The case manager will contact the other person(s) to talk with them
and see if they are willing to mediate. The case manager then sets
up a mediation time with the participants and two volunteer mediators.
In mediation participants talk and listen to each other and make
decisions about the situation. The mediators are neutral and don't
make decisions or judgments.
