What is the Visioning Process?


In 1990 Neighborhood Forums called Envisioning the Future provided input to the Village, Township and School Board that resulted in substantive actions such as a thorough revision of the Village Comprehensive Land Use Plan.

At the present time the village is facing one of the most critical periods in its history.  With all of the critical issues at hand, it’s time to go back to the community to gather your input and hear your dreams for the future.  

The Village and Township have jointly embarked on a Visioning process. By forming a 35 member Steering Committee and securing ACP Visioning + Planning of Columbus, Ohio to lend technical support and training, the Vision will come to fruition.

  The Visioning process will have three phases:

Vision Process Overview

The Vision process will have three rounds of public involvement opportunities: 1) Share Your Dreams, 2) Build a Vision, and 3) Shape Our Future. The purpose and outcomes of each phase is described below:

1. SHARE YOUR DREAMS

The first phase involves a highly interactive brainstorming workshops designed to gather ideas from a broad range of citizens about the future of the community. These ideas are the foundation on which all other steps of the vision are based. Share Your Dreams establishes a baseline of values and aspirations.

2. BUILD A VISION

The second phase respectfully molds the community’s voices into a consensus. Build a Vision involves analytical workshops where participants will translate the results of the idea gathering workshops and technical analysis into goals for the future. The goals developed during this phase are the policy foundation of the vision and are the basis for implementation strategies.

3. SHAPE OUR FUTURE

In the third and final phase, citizens will ensure that the Vision is a reference point for future planning. Shape Our Future brings the results back to the public for deliberation and prioritization. A public open house will ask the community to review and comment on the vision statements, goals and strategies. The result will be framework for implementation and for motivating champions of the vision.
