Smoke Testing Sewer Lines
NEW DATE FOR TESTING
Monday, July 30, 2012 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Due to inclement weather on the original testing date, the Village of Yellow Springs has rescheduled the smoke testing of the sanitary sewer system.
The Village of Yellow Springs is conducting a smoke test of its sanitary sewer system.
Work crews will be in town starting on July 30th, 2012. A “SMOKE TEST” survey will assist our inspection crews in locating any defects in our sewer system. The smoke you see coming from the vent stacks on houses or holes in the ground is NON-TOXIC, NON-STAINING, HAS MINIMAL ODOR, IS WHITE TO GRAY IN COLOR AND CREATES NO FIRE HAZARD.
The smoke should not enter your home unless you have defective plumbing or dried up drain traps.
It is advisable for the home owner to pour a gallon of water into each drain trap of floors, sinks, showers, and tubs prior to our testing. You will be notified 24 hours in advance of smoke testing in your neighborhood by door hangers and reverse 911. If smoke enters your home there is a good reason to assume that sewer gases may also be entering your home or business. If you are not home and discover smoke when you return, please call Superintendent Jason Hamby at (937) 605-9651 or Police Dispatch non-emergency at 767-7206.
IMPORTANT! If there is any individual in your home or business who has respiratory problems and is immobile, please notify us at (937) 605-9651 prior to testing.
